Community Invited to Unveiling of Ionosphere Encounter at KCHW
Something extraordinary has been taking shape at KCHW Northern Lights Public Radio—and soon the mystery will be revealed.
Over the past several weeks, curious passersby have watched the building transform. A vibrant new mural has emerged, the building has taken on a cosmic new look, and intriguing sculptural elements have appeared inside the station. But what you've seen so far is only part of the story.
On Thursday, August 6, the community is invited to experience the unveiling of Ionosphere Encounter, a one-of-a-kind public art installation created through a collaboration between the Chewelah Creative District, KCHW Northern Lights Public Radio, and a talented team of regional artists.
Blending mural, sculpture, lighting, and interactive elements, Ionosphere Encounter transforms the building into an immersive work of public art inspired by the beauty, mystery, and wonder of the night sky. While the installation is captivating during the day, the full experience is designed to come alive after dark.
As daylight fades, a new work of public art will come to life. Join us beginning at 7:30 p.m. for live music by Rockabilly Space Force, themed refreshments, giveaways, and community celebration. Then gather for the official unveiling at approximately 8:30 p.m., just after sunset, when the complete installation will be revealed.

Bring your family, invite your friends, and be among the first to experience this one-of-a-kind public art installation. There will even be a themed selfie station, so don't forget your camera!
Ionosphere Encounter features the work of regional artists Monika Sowinska (Monticola Studios), Ben Talmage (Electric Lines Design), Jarrett O'Neal (Ascending Embers Drone Light Shows), and Larah Ritchie (Mindmeld Creative), whose combined talents have created a truly unique landmark for the community.

We're coming together for the 17th Chewelah Farmers Market Zucchini Regatta. It's a day of fun, creativity, and friendly competition as we race our zucchinis down Chewelah Creek!
Make your powerful, rugged vessel at home using only biodegradable parts, or make one at the Market Shipyard, located at the KERNEL booth. The shipbuilding begins at noon, and all of the materials to build your zucchini boat will be available. There will be three age divisions, and it's FREE. Don't forget to come early to sign up at the Market Booth or the Shipyard.

Beginning Friday, May 8, the market will be open every Friday from 11:00am-3:30pm, ending this fall on October 9.

Join us at Seekers Bookshop in Colville to celebrate the launch of Risk Management, the new thriller from Reid Winslow — the pen name of a former trial lawyer who spent three decades in the courtroom before turning that experience into fiction. The day is in two parts:
Book Launch & Signing — 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. A short reading, the story behind the book, questions, and signed copies available to purchase.
Meet the Author — 2:30 to 5:30 PM. Stay for a relaxed reception with nibbles and refreshments.
